Monday Grind

Today was one of the not so glamorous yet necessary days. I got nearly no flash coding done today. I did however get a large number of "infrastructure" things set up. The same things that haunted me yesterday and partly the week before I was busy fixing. I have to say parts of today were downright boring or frustrating. For example, I had to reconfigure samba (ability to share files across the network). There was a good number of other boring things, and I'll spare you the details.

On the brighter side of things...

I purchased a new laptop, just cheap enough to be in budget and just good enough to do what I need. And I installed the newest version of flash on it. I have to say, action script 3 so far plays a lot more like the programming / scripting languages I'm used to. The syntax is more strict, actually I think I'm going to like it a lot. And after looking through that and making a checklist for all the basic features / functionality any of my games should have I have to admit I'm a bit torn for this week.

1.) Get the flash sidescroller done
2.) Work on the framework for a game, but no game.

Considering the last learning experience wasn't much of a game, I'm leaning towards the second. I'll let you know tomorrow what I decide.

Oh and one more thing. I've had the opportunity to talk to a few other people in the Indy sphere. It's been great and one I've been introduced to is Ian Stocker. He's the creator of Soulcaster 1 and Soulcaster 2. Both for Xbox Community games. I've played through the second and it's a lot of fun. He even got the thumbs up from Penny Arcade. The good Xbox community games I really enjoy. They are both cheap and pretty decent games.

Check it out if you get a chance.
