Day 3 - Costs of Development

So today was about networking, idea farming, and getting the cost of development down. I'm going to focus on that last bit here. The cost to make games for various systems and setups can be quite expensive. Here's the preliminary breakdown I have:

Platform Total Cost Cost Breakdown
iPhone $250 Apple SDK $100 (for 1 yr), Registering LLC Company $150
Flash $400 Adobe Flash Studio $400
Xbox Live Arcade $100,000-$300,000 http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2006/09/xbox_live_arcade_makes_how_muc.php
Xbox Live Indy $99 USD Windows, XNA Game Studio Premium Membership $99 / year
Sony Network $10,000+? Unknown, likely need a PS3 developer kit.
Wii Network $2000 USD Developer Kit costs around $2000

This isn't exhaustive. For example. I use linux. So I'd have to tack on some extra expenses to either buy windows or get another cheap system with windows installed on it.

This also doesn't cover how much the publisher takes from you. So I'll have to update the chart later.

Getting the right people together is the next big hurdle. Ideas are comparatively easy.

Stay tuned!
